Blues Lessons - Strumming

The strumming lesson is for absolute guitar beginners

Info: A 4/4 time means, that each measure or bar gets four beats.
Lets take the chords A and D and count while you play to get a feeling for the rhythm.

Exercise I: Use up (u) and downstrokes (d) while you play.

Strumming

Now play this at double speed. That means you strike 8 times for each bar.
You count this way: "One-and-two-and-three-and-four".

Count 1 & 2 & 3 & 4
d u d u d u d

Practice this with different chords until you can smoothly change between the different chord shapes.
Try to find different strike patterns you like (e.g. d d u d)

Exercise II:

If you move further with these Blues lessons, you´ll start to play a 12-Bar-Blues.

A 12-Bar-Blues normaly consists of 3. You´ll learn more about this later.
Here I give you some examples of a 12-Bar-Blues in different keys.
Learn them like you learned the exercises above so that you start to feel the rhythm and when to change the chord.
